We are excited to be welcoming Lorie of LJS Digital Designs to OScraps. To get started, let’s learn a little more about Lorie.
How & when did you get into digital scrapbooking?
I’ve always been the record keeper in my family; even as a little girl I jotted family events and stories down in a diary. I think scrapbooking is a natural extension of that and I scrapped traditionally in one way or another most of my life. But I didn’t discover digi scrapping until 2007 when a genealogy friend showed me a layout and asked me what I thought. I thought, I need to learn about this.
What famous location would you like to visit?
Paris. It’s a dream of mine that has just gotten stronger since my son went with his high school class in 2006. I was so happy to be able to send him, but next time it’s my turn.
What is your biggest idiosyncrasy?
I make up my own words and phrases, such as eeshka bubbies, to avoid using bad language. I’ve been doing it for so long, that my son actually thought my favorite ones were real words. What really cracks me up is when other people start using them too.
What makes you giggle?
I am a giggler, so just about anything humorous will bring it on. I also have a habit of giggling when I am nervous, which had proven awkward on more than one occasion.
What is your favorite kit or product you’ve designed?
Honestly, my favorite kit is usually the one I am currently working on, but Parking Lot Party will always hold a special place in my heart because it was my first kit as a working designer.
Where do you get your inspiration when designing a digital product?
My kits usually start off with a title and go from there, so I guess my inspiration comes mostly from words. Quotes, Titles, Songs, Books, Jokes, Common Phrases are all design sources for me.
Describe yourself in 3 words.
I am creative, focused and independent.
When you are not designing what are you up to?
Truthfully, there are not enough hours in the day to do all the things I want to do every day. I work as a production scheduler for an international company, so at least 10 hours of my day is spent in fast-paced and chaotic environment full of people. As a result, I prefer to fill the rest of my time with quiet activities like reading, spending time with my family and taking my pups for long walks.
What is your favorite thing to design? What is your least favorite thing to design?
With out a doubt my favorite thing is word art, closely followed by paper patterns and illustrative pieces. My least favorite? I don’t think I have one. I enjoy the entire design process.
How would you describe your style? Now describe it to a 5-year-old.
As a new designer, my style is still growing and evolving, but I think of my self as a traditionalist with a bit of an illustrative bent that I need to explore further. If I had to explain it to a five year old I’d tell him or her that I like to create pretty things that go well with the photos their mommy takes and makes her happy.
