Hi everyone! I’ve posted so many times, I feel like you all know me. But we’d like you to get to know the blog team a little bit better. So we have a fun Q&A for each of us on the team that we’d like to share with you. First of all, a little basic bit about me. I am a midwest girl in the heart of the country…almost dead center. I am a city girl, though there is plenty of country all around me. I am a school librarian and teach college classes on technology in schools and libraries. I love my job and I started hanging around Oscraps in the summer of 2008. I feel like it’s been forever! Now a bit more about me…
What came first, paper or digital?
Paper. We made a scrapbook and slideshow for my Grandma’s 90th birthday. It was a labor of love for my mom and I. Then, my mom passed away and I was moved to start scrapping about her. About a year and a half later, I had my son. I got the urge to create some pages on PowerPoint, got GIMP, and finally, caved and bought PSE. I started following Kim Wresh and poking around DST. Somehow, I wandered over to Oscraps and have stayed ever since!
Canon SX20. Not a DSLR, but close. I liked the SX10 better, but they had stopped making it by the time I purchased mine.
Why do you scrap?
For my son. That I remember all these times and that he has memories from me and of his life. I wish I had more from my mom.
How would you describe your scrapbook style?
Clean, classic, hyperrealistic.
Where do you create, and when? What program do you use?
I usually create while I’m sitting on my couch. We have a room I’ve deemed my “craft room”, but I tend to take my laptop and plop on the couch instead. Especially at night when everyone else goes to bed and I get to watch my shows and scrap a little. I’m a night owl. I use PSE mostly, though I have CS3 on my laptop.
What’s your favorite technique or trick?
I used to say extraction, but now I’d maybe say shadowing.
What’s your favorite color combination?
I tend to like darker colors and jewel tones. I am not a big pastel girl. Teal and Emerald green are some of my favorite colors, but I tend to go simple with background paper and use a lot of gray and natural for that. Usually, it’s a solid paper.
Do you prefer movies or books?
Ummm…yeah. Books. I rarely go to movies. TV Shows I watch. Movies…not as much. I’m too lazy to go out and spend that much money.
Sweet or salty? Coffee or tea? Beach or mountains?
Salty. Both. Mountains.
If you could live anywhere, where would it be?
I think I would love the Pacific northwest. I have friends and family there and you get the best of both worlds. Mountains, beaches, rain, etc. Though I thought Tennessee and the Smokies were amazing when I was there. But it was too hot. 🙂
Pick one of your favorite layouts and tell us why it’s one of your favorites.
Well that’s a little like picking a favorite child! After going through my layouts I found I had favorites for each category kind of for my life…a favorite of my daughter personality, my mom personality, my librarian personality, and my personal accomplishment side. I decided to pick one that showcases several of those sides. “A Very Special Light” is about how I gave my son a lava lamp that he uses at night to read by. My mom’s best friend had a lamp like this at her house and my mom loved it. Judy bought one for her, but my mom passed away before Judy gave it to her. Judy gave it to me instead. So now my son had a light to help him read by and remember his Grandma, who also love to read…and passed that on to his mom. 🙂
I love being a Cheery-O at Oscraps and love that I get to be on the blog team. I thank you all for being a part of the O too!
