Another page having to do with the Panama-California Expostion held in San Diego in 1915. I think it is amazing that in the year 1915, they had battery powered vehicles of any kind.

Journaling reads (pulled from actual advertising of the time): The Panama-Pacific Exposition, to be held at San Diego, California, next year, have announced that the Osborn electriquette will be the only self-propelled passenger vehicle permitted within the exposition grounds. The electriquettes have a cane hood, cane body, and cane seat. They will seat two persons, and have left side drive. A storage body gives an air of coolness and freedom from dust that is essential to comfort in warm, sunny climates such as that of southern California. It operated at a top speed of 3.5 MPH, and although 100 to 20 were used at the expo, none are known to have survived. One hundred years after the Exposition, Sandor Shapery has plans to resurrect up to100 Electriquettes for operation at the 2015 Centennial celebration. The first prototype cost $20,00 to create and was unveiled in 2012 at the San Diego History Center.

My Process: I began with an artsy paper from AP Bliss, and added the photo frame. The photo I planned on using was landscape, therefore I rotated the frame 90 degrees, and then increased the opening size by cutting and masking as necessary. I then created a new layer, filled it with a soft brown, and clipped it to the frame, placing it on blend mode “multiply”, and reduced it’s opacity until the frame was dark enough to pop a bit from the background. I added a custom shadow. Once the photo was placed I brought in a map from the exposition, and placing it on blend mode “multiply”, used the inverted masking technique to add it to the background paper. I then brought in a number of transfers, placing it around the photo and map. I brought in a MMBliss element, and placed it along the left of the photo. I added the metal word. I then took an image from an advertisement of the electriquette, and extracted just the electriquette and it’s two riders, and added a stroke and shadow to give it a sticker effect. I used only a portion of another of the MMBliss (the urban stitches, red flower and string, and added the key element to it, placing it on the lower corner of the framed image. I added the title, choosing red to match the button and flower, and then added a white stroke, and custom shadow. I added the text to the frame, actually blended from a portion of the map that was used. I added the journaling, working it around the title.

Every day we are given stones, but what do we build? Is it a bridge or is it a wall?

LOVE the colours and the fabulous history lesson. I visited Mercedes World whilst in UK and saw the very first motor vehicle run on petrol. Mr Benz' wife had to visit a relative 20 miles away so bought 1 ounce of petrol from the chemist and hopped in her husband's very expensive prototype and casually came back home!!
