Had to start from square one a few times before I remembered to do that)

What kinds of characteristics do your original photos have?
Chris, how about you try a photo of something or someone that does not have too much other details on it. For instance, just the face, or a close up of a cat, a dog or a car............ then adjust the contrast levels and try again. The only blending modes I used were on the Halftone (Soft Light) so that the dots would appear on the Cutout layer, and on the original photo layer that I moved to the top I went with Color Burn and then lowered the opacity as I only wanted a hint of darker colour. The Cutout layer should remain at Normal, 100% opacity so it stands out. Perhaps try to vary your Cutout and Halftone Filter settings so it is also more suitable for your photo. Let me know how you go!

Here is another example on the photo of Grace that I chose randomly:

From the bottom up: Cutout layer Normal 100%; Halftone layer - Soft Light 100%; Original photo layer moved to the top - Overlay 62%

Ona, thank you for the suggestions for the photo. I tried a third photo after I posted this yesterday and it was a close up of a face of a goat. It looked much better than the other ones I had done, but by then, I ran out of time to scrap.
I never used those Filters before and am intrigued to try some more.

This was a fun technique! Thanks for sharing it with us.

I used both Halftone and Cutout filters on my photo.
