Default Challenge No 4 - LYRIC

Hi Everyone. I know, I don’t usually do the Lyric Challenge but Chris has allowed
me to play with her challenge this month, so here goes.

We all have songs we remember from childhood; songs that evoke memories,
good or bad. Songs that evoke smells, songs that evoke feelings. Songs that,
from their opening bars, carry us back to that place in time locked in our
heads. So, I’m sure you can guess where I’m going
with this ….. We want you scrap a page about a song
that evokes childhood memories for you. You don’t need to tell us those
memories, but it would be nice to know why you picked this song. We do,
however, want you to use some of the lyrics on your page.

I picked American Pie by Don McLean, which evokes memories of my
mother, sister & I singing our hearts out in the car.

Here’s some inspiration from the Cheery-Os:

Ahhh, one of my very favourite tunes from childhood, so sad at the end "A dragon lives forever, not so little boys". My mum taught music in my school one day a week and this was one of the songs she always did with the little kids back in the 70s, so I'd hear her practicing it year after year. But OMG, I was so embarrassed being taught by my mum, I didn't know what to call her during lessons!

Ended up making a 2-pager for this - one with the song lyrics, and one with my journaling about it.

Translation of the journaling:
We had this record at home when I was a child. Jan Malmsjö sang it with his unbarable oily, sentimental voice. As I remember it Bittan [my sister] played it over and over again. Me - I was hiding behind the sofa and cried because I thought it was so terribly sad. I have no idea why I thought it was necessary to hide my crying. Perhaps I wanted to be alone with my sorrow? When I as a grown up heard the English original for the first time, it was a bit funny. When I was a kid I had thought of Puff as a kite [the Swedish word for kite and dragon are both "drake"] and not a dragon. I wonder how much I would have cried if I had understood that he play with an animal dragon and not a toy kite, and that the poor animal was left alone and abandoned when the fall came.
