Default Challenge No. 5 - JOURNALING October 2013

I’m sure most of you have heard mention of the expression “from where I stand/sit”,
especially if you are a follower of photography blogs etc. I first came across this
concept from my dear friend and ex-Cheery O, Helenh, who took a series of
glorious From Where I Sit photos. So, as a twist on this concept I’ve turned
this challenge into a journaling exercise – photographs are not necessary,
but hey, we’re scrapbookers, so they are always welcome. This month we’re
going to concentrate on the words – and we’re going to use lots of them! I want
you to sit and tell us what you can see. Really see. Envelop us in all that
surrounds you. Paint the scene with your words, so we can see what you
see. Let us learn about you through your eyes via your words.

Now, this is not something that will necessarily come easily to us all. Sometimes
we can’t force the words to come. Ofttimes we may sit and ponder and absolutely
nothing forms in our minds. Don’t force it. Read the challenge, then go away and
think about it for a week or two. Let the moment of observation creep up on you.
It works better that way. Let your spot to sit and see from find you. Maybe your
spot is right there in your usual surroundings but is actually a moment in time,
observed fully and recorded.

How you choose to record these words is up to you. Straight forward prose is an
obvious start, but need not be the only method. Lists are always a favourite, but
may require a little explanation. Can you think of other journalistic forms?
And yes, this challenge could indeed be tied into this month’s Photo
Challenge – the benefit I get of writing two challenges in one month! – but
remember you need to produce two different layouts, one for each challenge,
to enter the prize draw correctly.

Here are a couple of examples from me; one a moment in time, the other a
specific spot, both recording my surrounds and observations from where I sat.

And how about this beautifully written page by Trudy! Her writing is so
evocative, making you
want to close you eyes and drink in the scene
she is telling you about - except of course, don't close your eyes
otherwise you'll miss what she has to say!

So I really had to think and scrap about me. It's good to sit down and do this from time to time.

WOW Lorry and Ulina, your pages just blow me away. They are EXACTLY what I was hoping for from this challenge. I've waxed lyrical about your pages in your galleries!
