Hi everyone and welcome to a new challenge here at the O, the LETTER ART challenge.

As the name implies, we will be decorating ONE LETTER for our challenge this month. Think of those lovely old children's stories where the first, drop-case letter was always beautifully adorned or decorated.

Take a look at this Pinterest board to get your creative juices flowing as well -----> HERE

For this month's challenge we are going to decorate a letter of your choice on a journal sized card measuring 750 px X 1050 px (2.5 in x 3.4 in or 6.35 cm x 8.89 cm) and we are going to use a FONT to create the letter, NOT AN ALPHA or WORDART.

Once your journal card is created you may also use it on a layout, or in some other way but that is totally optional.

Here is my journal card using the letter G:
Credits: Font=Arial Bold; Background papers= Dear Diary by NBK Design; Artplay Palette - Autumn Rust and Artplay Palette Ablaze by Anna Aspnes. Elements and transfers: Quiet Moments by Lynne Anzelc; Stitched by Anna No 1 by Anna Aspnes; Seashore Dreams by NBK Design; Vision kit by Jopke; Morning Light by Lynne Anzelc.

How did I do it?
1. First I created a new PSD file using the journal card measurements I noted above.
2. I typed the letter G, using ARIAL BOLD font.
3. I simplified the layer and then enlarged the LETTER on the journal card, I also changed the colour to white.
4. From here I began clipping various things to the LETTER, like another photo, transfers, elements and papers. Remember to play around with blend modes and also use your masks to get rid of those bits and pieces that are not needed.

***Note: Take a minute before you start to get an idea of what you want to do with your LETTER. Will it be part of a layout or will you use it to print out and pop on a card to give someone etc. Think about the theme, and the colours you want to use. If you have some idea to begin with you can target just specific items and/or papers when searching for things to clip to the LETTER, or to use with the LETTER.

5. Next I played around with the background to create something that was interesting but still a bit plain so that my LETTER G stood out.

***Note: There is no need to get as elaborate as I did, but please do take the time to play and create some ART on our LETTER. I know you are all very creative so I am expecting to see some fabulous LETTER ARTS!!! :)

Using the journal card on a layout is optional as I said earlier, but if you are going to do that, think about your layout and what you what to scrap. Perhaps do your layout first? and then do the journal card? Which ever way you do it, make sure your journal card fits in with the theme of your layout.

Here is my layout of Grace's affinity with the sea, I used some of the same transfers and papers on it that I used on the LETTER for the journal card. The layout also shows the actual size of the journal card better as well. :)
