View Full Version : Did anyone watch Rent Live?

Full disclosure: I am a RentHead. :D
I didn't watch it last night but we DVR'd it and will watch when the family has time together, probably over the weekend.

I have to say that I was on the fence about it. I have seen the play on Broadway 5 times, Off-Broadway once. I have the Chris Columbus movie version (meh) and a film of the play. I wasn't sure how I felt about it being on TV. I guess I was feeling a bit snobby LOL. But when my BFF said that she was watching it (she has seen it - well... let's say that I lost count when she got into double digits!) and that there would be some of the original cast making appearances, I decided to tape it.

One thing that I am always happy about is seeing the message of Rent being shared and watched by more and more people. Even though it was written and produced in the 80s/90's the message is still a relevant one. One that IMHO should be broadcast and elevated each and every day. No day but today!

I will have to see if I can find the TV version of it Chris! I saw the movie and wasn't really too impressed by it, but you are right the message behind it is a good one!

Trudy- it was on our Fox station, not sure if it would have been broadcast in CA or not. if you can find it, you should see it. The movie version- yuck. I was so excited when it came out because I adore the music and the story. But it was so campy compared to the actual play.

I have been seeing some little tidbits on Twitter that they focused a lot on ActUp- an organization started in the 80s to fight AIDS and also on the company that owns the patent on PReP - a drug that helps prevent HIV/AIDS but is too expensive for a lot of people to take.

I think we are going to watch it on Saturday. Can't wait!
