Two people can easily be inspired in different ways from one set of supplies. In this One Kit Two Ways Art Journal Challenge, we see how Jana Oliveira and I were inspired to create with the Coexistence kit from Courtney Designs. We were asked to keep to the kit, however, we did have the option to reach into our stash for basic items such as thread, inks and paint.
Coexistence( found here in the OScraps Store) is a collaboration between Courtney Designs and Viva Artistry. The kit is quite apropos for today’s political environment and perfect for art journaling. Creating art is a wonderful means of self healing. This kit really lends itself to that and can help you find a voice for some of your frustrations and fears. Better yet, it can be a voice for hope.
Jana took a digital approach to her page. I like that it expresses her feelings while also documenting the time. Many people don’t think of their art journal pages as scrapbooking, but in many ways, art journal pages often share our emotional insight into what is going on in the world around us.
I took a hybrid approach. I used elements of the kit to art journal inside one of my recycled magazine journals. I took cues from the kit, adding in machine stitching and playing with ink.
I may have gotten a little carried away with the ink! Sometimes you just have to go with the flow. In this case, I had to accept the way the ink spread itself across the page.
Now it’s your turn! What would you create with the Coexistence kit? Grab the kit, upload your creation to the Oscraps Gallery and share a link in the comments below!
