How are all these long summer days going? Hopefuly full of fun and lots of laughter! But no worries if they’re not. We’ve scoured the O gallery to find some LOs that will bring a smile to your face and maybe even cause a chuckle, snicker or big ‘ol belly laugh!
Yup, we’re featuring The Funnies today – those layouts whose topic, photo or journaling have a definite dash of humor and sometimes a little kick of snark or whimsy.
First of up is a classically gorgeous, beautifully composed layout: The Common Cold by Missyscraps. At first glance, it’s all about the elegant colors, yummy layering, glimpses of floral stamps and all those other details that make a beautiful LO but then we bump into that gamechanger of a title/text. We see all these great man-made inventions (and some fanciful ones, too): tall buildings, some whirly-gig thing, a primitive helicopter and an automobile (with wings) and are thinking, “Wow! Pretty advanced stuff!”. Then she reminds us that we still can’t find a solution for a simple cold. Zing! Her inspiration was a recent cold and her interpretation of her frustration with it gave us this fabulous LO with grown-up humor (and just a nice dash of snarky – more literary types would call it irony).
Moving from adults to the kiddos, at first glance I Think I’m a Star by faby33 drew me in with the great blending and the funky title. Then I noticed the journaling (See how it really makes the title because it links the journaling toward the top with the text and it matches the loop-de-loop accents? Fab!). Fun and clever composition-wise but..wait..check out the photo. AH-HA! I get it!! That cute little man doesn’t even realize he is doing one of those 1940s/1950s starlet poses!. HAAAAAAAA! And that, folks, is how you create a LO that showcases humor in a subtle but clever way. Who thinks it’s going to show up in one of those fun, adorable-as-a-kid-but-embarrassing-as-an-adult graduation or wedding tribute DVDs someday? (My hand is up!)
And for our finale, we come to an in-your-face Funny that combines the best of Art Journaling design and humor in Big Ears by Oldvwblues. I laughed out loud when I saw it in the gallery. Maybe because of the fabulous title or the whimsical look of it or because I have big ears and can relate to the too-funny journaling. Sometimes subtlety just doesn’t cut it and you need flat-out Funnies like those 3 Stooges (the OLD classics, not the mod one), Jerry Lewis or Lucy (okay..she was a bit more refined that Moe, Larry & Curly for sure but she was a master comedienne of physical humor). For those times, you need a LO like this one.
We’re showing just three Funnies this time because sometimes a little humor goes a long way and too much makes you feel like Curly after Moe whopped him upside the head (OW!). But….if you need a few more smiles and giggles, then check out these links:
Water Farts by Terry b (Um…yeah..there is not one thing that I can or should add to this one)
AnnaLIFT-6.28.14—7.4.14 by Scrappingramma (Check out the journaling for a chuckle. Poor, ‘lil determined fisherboy!)
AnnaLIFT-6.28.14–7.4.14 by P’tscrap (I can just hear the giggles erupting from this fun LO with creative titlework)
Blow! by LRaeWoo (What a colorful, fun LO that just makes me smile, especially with that enthusiastic bubble boy!)
Pool Glam by Miki (Gorgeous blending but its that cheeky look and funny face that make me grin)
Silly by Flohbok (Tons of fun elements, a sassy photo and bright colors gave me a chuckle)
My Feet Selfies by AmuraVomerine (another one of those quirky, grown-up fun LOs that had me saying, “Oooh, I do that too but didn’t think of scrapping it until now!”)
Ninja Canonball by Tanderson (Just a sweet reminder of summer joy and all the laughter)
That wraps it up for June! Keep filling the O gallery with your pretties so we can brag on you in July, okay?! Until then, happy scrapping!
