Default Day 11 - Christmas Ornament Tutorial

Early on in my digital scrapbooking career, I became a subscriber to Digital Scrapbooking magazine. I LOVED it! You can still access some of the articles from past issues here: http://www.digitalscrapbooking.com/issues/index.html One of my favorite tutorials was how to warp a photo into a globe shape. It was in the Dec/Jan 2008 issue. This can be used for ornaments like this one I made with Vicki's ornaments:

Or a crystal ball

Or a balloon!

Or a snow globe...Or a garden globe...or even more creative things that I can't think of!

I use Photoshop Elements and the tutorial was written for an older version of full Photoshop, so these controls might not be exactly the same in your software, but I am sure there are similar tools and functions.

If you are interested in trying this, Vicki Stegall's "Trimmings" is perfect for it! And Vicki was so kind to even give us a coupon for 1/2 half off!
Coupon code: decoR8-50
Amount: 1/2 off
Item: Trimmings :: Mix & Match by Vicki Stegall
Good thru: Dec 31, 2013

So here are the basic steps.

1) Place your ornament on your layout and add your photo as a new layer right above it.
2) Select the Filter option, then Distort, then Lens Corrrection. In Elements, "Correct Camera Distortion" is what you are looking for. My version has it directly under the filter menu and not under "Distort". So, you may have to look for this option in your program. Set the Remove Distortion at -50. You can play with the settings on the distortion menu until you get the angle and tilt that you want.
3) Resize your picture as needed to fit your globe, reducing the opacity as needed and bring the opacity back to full 100% when you are finished.
4) Change your blending mode to Overlay (or whatever mode suits your globe).
5) Group (or clip) your photo to your globe layer and add shadowing as necessary. You may want to link your globe and photo layers together for later movement and resizing.

And viola! You have an ornament!

Here is some inspiration from the team:

And the team has even more that they will be posting! Play along with us too if you'd like! This isn't an official challenge, just a chance to try something new! But if you do try it, post your layout in the Special O-vents gallery and link them back up to this thread! Have fun!!!

Back when I first started digi scrapping one of the very first kits I bought was for a snow globe...but I don't think we were to put photos in it...will have to play with this, but first I have to do the Christmas song challenge...
