Default Feb 2012 - Creative Techniques Challenge - Gradient/Blending

HI EVERYONE!!!!
Here I am finally!!!

THANK YOU for being so patient! During January I was filling in for my manager and as we have a new training project to be launched mid February it has been quite hectic! My manager is now back but I am now off traveling the countryside training our new apprentices in using our company's email and HR system.

So on with the challenge.... this month I am introducing how to use the Gradient tool and we also get to do a bit of blending and work with masks again! Gradients are very useful and in this tutorial I am going to show you how we can use it on a photo to blend it into the paper. Of course we could do in other ways but I thought I would introduce the Gradient tool to start becoming a bit more familiar with it. We will be exploring this tool more over the next few months.

This is my finished page, featuring my second eldest grandson who turned 13 in January. Ah yes, the beginning of his teenage years! In this photo he looks very much in his own world and I think I wanted to emphasis the moodiness of the photo and make it more graphic.

Here is the tutorial and I hope you find it useful and easy to follow!! Please tell me how you went with it when you post your layout in this thread and I can't wait to see your pages!!!!

Ona, appreciate the tutorial. Know just how I might be able to use that technique. Haven't time to do the challenge though unfortunately because I'm going away tomorrow but will get back here soon as I can to reread and get in some practice. Will let you know how I go.

Many thanks!

I loved the tutorial but couldn't find a way to follow the gradient part in PSP. I've done something with gradients there that seems to be about the same in the result. I did a similar sort of stack of layers and effects.
