Your Challenge This Week!
In honor of our "Member spotlight" the cheery-o team has a unique idea cooked up for you

Journal Around the Block
It's hip to be square, rectangle or maybe even a "circle"....but there's one thing that's most important - journaling.

This week, we want you to create a layout with a photo block (size and shape of your choice), with one important detail....

...journal around your photo block.

It's that simple. Your photo block (or circle) must include journaling around it....use one of Bush Girl's layouts, as the basis for your creation.

The basic requirements
--- Visit Bush Girl's gallery.

--- Pick out a layout that strikes your fancy. (Pst...you may find it hard to choose just one layout!)

--- Create a layout "scraplifting" the layout you choose, using ANYTHING from the Oscraps stash/Store.....don't forget the freebies in the Oscraps Store (...with all these freebies, we're sure you'll have no problem meeting the usual 100 percent Oscraps requirements!)

--- Upload your layout to the designer spotlight gallery. Don't forget to list your credits in the layout information section!

--- Come back to this thread and post a link/photo of your layout here.

--- Post a layout by midnight, EST, Sunday Jan. 10

--- Remember to HAVE FUN!

Before you start scrapping...get to know Selena!!!


Who are you? Tell more about you & your family!
I’m Selena from London, UK. Until last year I lived in Singapore with my husband and 3 children, but we have returned home now and, sadly, have no plans to live abroad again.

How did you get involved in digi-scrapping?
I started paper scrapping in Singapore in 2005, when I had more time on my hands. I dabbled in digi from mid 2007, then broke my wrist badly which stopped me using my trimmer and around the same time moved back home when everything went into storage and transit, so I became fully digital and haven’t looked back since.

Why scrap?
I started scrapping when I discovered all my photos had stuck to the old style albums I had due to the heat & humidity in Singapore. So it was initially all about preservation. This led me to become more interested in my photography to try and capture better, more scrap worthy shots. Then I realised what I enjoyed the most was the storytelling process. For me, it actually all about the story and the photos are incidentals that hopefully build on the story. I have a reputation for huge amounts of journaling. Sometimes I’m so much of a motor mouth that there isn’t room for a photo!

What's your favourite font to journal with? Your favourite "funky" font?
As a result of my verbal diarrhoea, I require fonts – lots of them. I have hundreds, but really only use about half a dozen for journaling as it’s got to be readable, so I tend to go for Times New Roman, Century Gothic or Helvetica. But I am also a wordart fan, thanks to Jodie McNally and Sue Cummings, and I particularly like messy fonts, like Trashed, and blocked fonts like Impact, which I often use for titles or combine with purchased wordart.

Where do you get your scrapbooking inspiration?
My children. And Cathy Zielske. With a little help from Diet Coke.

What's the strangest thing you've ever scrapped?
My humour can be a little warped and I’m partial to scrapping strange things. I’ve scrapped about my washing machine, laundry, ironing, contents of my fridge & handbag (although not on the same LO!), mess made by my kids, brass penguins, a cup of tea, the felling of a tree, a huge pile of junk in my garden, food & it’s resulting mess. But perhaps the oddest one of all is an air conditioning unit – the challenge had been to scrap something dull, so I did. How many of my quirky LOs can you spot in my gallery?

If stranded on an island without internet, what five Oscraps kits/things
would you want on a cd to scrap with?
Now, how am I supposed to narrow it down to 5 items? How about 5 designers? Ninascraps, Jodie McNally, Sue Cummings, Holliewood Studios, TaylorMade Designs, Paislee Press, Vicki Stegall. Oh, did I go over 5? Do you think they’ll all fit in my suitcase? Do you think customs would notice?

How long have you been hanging out at the big o?
According to my profile info, I signed up in May 2007, but was much too shy to join in the chat or challenges. I finally took the plunge challenge wise in Jan 2008 and haven’t stopped since. Well, OK. I was a bit slack this December just gone, but I was kind of busy. I believe some of the rest of you might have been a little busier than normal too! And in this time it’s been my great pleasure and a source of tremendous pride that I’ve been invited to CT for 4 of the O designers. You know who you are girls – thank you.
