Default file uploading

A little confused:
This morning I successfully uploaded a photo to the gallery. Now this afternoon I attempted to upload 2 more pages saving them in the same way I did the morning photo (and the same way I always have @864x864/72pixels saved for web) For some reason the files were considered too large to upload so I had to resave them @600x600/72 pixels.

Any thoughts?

The files need to be less than 250kb. I have always found that 500x500 pixels at "very high" quality and 72dpi works well to reach that number. Sometimes, if I have a layout with lots of elements or photos, that just makes it a bigger file to start with and 500x500 doesn't quite cut it. If it's a simple layout, I've gone as big as 600x600, but I don't do that a lot. Do you know what the file size was of the two files considered too big when you did them at 864x864?

At some point, I thought 500x500 was a rule, but maybe it was a guideline more of a rule??

I always use 600x600 at 72 dpi and save at a medium No. 7 quality and never have any problems with that!

Default Thank you

Thanks for the info. One of the files had quite a few elements. Good to know.
I'll just change my sizing from now on
